On Saturday 13th April, we will be holding an open day event, where the community can simply show up with no prior booking. Activities will be available for children especially, including Saxon re-enactors.

Old Woking Project half term event at the Lightbox

As part of the Old Woking communtity test pitting project, an open day event will take place over the February half term at the Lightbox, in Woking (Chobham Rd, Woking, GU21 4AA).

This will involve a special public exhibition displaying material found in the previous seasons of excavation at the settlement (2009-18) and information on plans for the 2019 season.

Activities will also be available for children, including the chance to be an archaeologist and dig for artefacts in our sandboxes, and living history demonstrations from a prehistoric flintknapper.

Bookham Courte 2017

A fourth season of excavation at Bookham Courte, a medieval manor house near the centre of Great Bookham. Of the four new trenches, one was an extension of trench 7 in 2016. All the trenches contained medieval pottery suggesting the site went back to the 11th century. The remains of flint and mortar walls were found, but the archaeology showed that there had been various buildings or structures in the area over a long period.
