It is awarded to presentations of recent work in Surrey related to its history or archaeology and submissions or nominations are invited for 2026. Submissions and nominations should be made by 7th January 2026 so that they can be assessed before the Symposium. This is an opportunity for community activities, youth groups and individuals to be creative in publicising their work.

A Study of the Patterns on Roman Flue Tiles and their Distribution

A.W.G. Lowther, F.S.A

This 'Research Paper of the Surrey Archaeological Society, No.1' was written by A.W G Lowther after excavations on Ashtead Common (1926-28) revealed a large number of Roman flue tiles with elaborate patterns. This led to research across Surrey to identify identical or similar patterns and this publication illustrates the results. Although published in the 1930s it is still used by researchers in the 21st century.
