Chaldon Court May 2026
An archaeological investigation took place in 2026 in the grounds of Chaldon Court, a Grade II* listed house with a List Entry Number: 1029812 and one of Surrey’s oldest houses. On the 2nd and 3rd May 2026, Surrey Archaeological Society (SyAS) led a community test pitting programme with seven test pits placed around the house in the gardens. Roman, medieval and post-medieval finds were recorded, and walls and courtyard areas noted.
Fifteen volunteers from the village of Chaldon were helped by members of SyAS to uncover the history of the manor house. An open day on the Saturday was well attended by the public who viewed the test pits and were given a tour of the house.
A full report will be available at the Abinger Research Centre.
