Excavation by M Reynier of Nottingham University, for the British Museum, of an area adjacent to the 1977/8 excavation by Dr R M Jacobi (site 103, Kettlebury). A large collection of flints was recovered, including two hollow-based points which are characteristic of Early Mesolithic Horsham assemblages. Another characteristic of Horsham assemblages, the chamfered flake or blade, was not recovered, but two characteristic chamfer spalls were.

Evaluation by S Dyer, with assistance from S Ward, for SCAU and Chris Blandford Associates, of land affected by the proposed improvements to the A3 London to Portsmouth trunk road. No finds or features of archaeological interest were recovered.

Evaluation by S Dyer of SCAU (with volunteers from the SyAS) for Chris Blandford Associates, along the line of proposed improvements to the A3. North and east of Bramshott Common (centred SU 874 341) a geophysical survey was carried out by the Bartlett-Clark Consultancy and a number of pit-like anomalies, which could be archaeologically significant, were identified. To the north and east of Hazel Grove (centred SU 881 349) a number of approximately parallel linear depressions were plotted and identified as remnant hollow ways from traffic before the modern A3 was constructed.

A watching brief by S Dyer of SCAU for Alchemy Ltd. followed on from an evaluation of the site for a new lake in 1993. In the north-east corner of the lake site a square-shaped pit containing slightly abraded pottery of Late Iron Age and Romano-British date was recorded. (289)

A watching brief by J Robertson of SCAU for Redland Technologies Ltd, on works for a new tile production site close to the location of known medieval pottery kilns, found only extensive modern disturbance.

Evaluation by J Pine of TVAS for Roger Molyneux Architects of a site close to the village church. The evaluation revealed a number of post-medieval artefacts, and a post-medieval pipe and wall trench. (301)

Evaluation by Sutton Archaeological Services for Linden Homes South-East Ltd of part of a site to be developed for residential use. Several sherds of Roman and medieval pottery, several prehistoric flints and an unidentifiable bronze coin were recovered. These were not associated with archaeological features and are thought likely to derive from upslope. A small ditch, a gully and a posthole were found; the ditch and gully contained no finds, though a small sherd of medieval pottery was recovered from the posthole.

Evaluation by J Robertson of SCAU for SCC’s Resources Dept, of land proposed for redevelopment. Undisturbed stratigraphy was found, but the only features were a post-medieval gully and the site of a bonfire, of unknown date.

A watching brief by J Robertson of SCAU for East Surrey Water plc, on part of the route of a new water main within the scheduled hillfort, found that much of the route had been disturbed by older services.

Excavation by G Hayman of SCAU for Kajima UK Engineering Ltd, followed on from an evaluation programme involving fieldwalking, geophysics and trial trenching of an area to be developed as a golf course. The evaluation revealed a variety of features of Late Iron Age to Early Roman date. The excavation confirmed these findings, producing evidence for an irregular enclosure containing gullies, pits and postholes as well as two possible hearths. The majority of these features appear to be of 1st to 2nd century date, with some dating to the 3rd to 4th centuries.
