From Emma Corke : "I looked up the date in the Farrer's press-cutting book, and I found out that on 16th Dec 1931 Lord and Lady Farrer gave a dinner (at the Wotton Hatch) to the workmen who had been widening the A25 at Abinger. There was entertainment as well as the dinner, and the men were given presents of cigarettes and their 'wives and sweethearts' chocolates. Probably the postcard accompanied one of these presents?"
The event was reported in the press cuttings uploaded.
The new Surrey LiDAR Portal, an interactive citizen science map of the county's LiDAR (as well as its historic maps), is now available. See surreylidar.org.uk to register and view the imagery!

In 1983 SIHG launched an annual conservation award. It was designed by one of our members, Tony Harcombe and consists of a plaque about a foot across which features the group's logo, name and the date. The plaque is cast in aluminium by J I Blackburn and Co who used to be based in Guildford, later in Godalming and are now in Bridport. The plaque is painted black with white lettering.
