SIHG: Visit the Rural Life Museum near Farnham

Date:
Thursday, 5 June, 2025 - 10:30

Come and join Richard Shenton on a visit to the Rural Life Living Museum at Tilford, near Farnham in Surrey.  There is a lot to see and enjoy at this museum which specializes in the Industrial history of Surrey.  Features include Buildings that have been saved from demolition, Old Shops and Trades, Farm Machinery, Old Vehicles, Fire Engines, a Passenger carrying Railway System (operating as advertised), a Timber Yard and many more items of interest.

To get the most out of the day, we have engaged a Tour Guide, who is a member of the Museum’s Staff, to show us around.  These Guides are very knowledgeable and helpful and really make the day, however they are not free and there is a supplement to pay for their services.

Cost of admission will be wholly dependent on numbers on the day.  If we are more than 10 attending the cost per person will be £16 to include the supplement for the Museum Guide.  If we are less than 10 attending the cost person will be £17 to include the Museum Guide.  If anybody does not qualify for the Senior Citizen rate, the cost will be £18 to include the Museum Guide.

I suggest that for lunch that we operate independently and at own cost.  There is a café on site, that serves hot drinks and cold snacks like sandwiches.  You may bring your own packed lunch if you prefer, alternatively half a mile along the road there is a Garden Centre which offers a range of hot and cold food.

If we were to meet at 11.00 at the entrance, that will allow those who need to travel to be able to avoid peak time holdups.  The Tour will last around an hour, depending on the number of questions asked, and on completion we then have free time to explore the museum at our leisure.

The address for the Museum is: The Rural Life Living Museum, Reeds Road, Tilford, Farnham Surrey, GU10 2DL

I would suggest approaching from the Farnham end as Reeds Road is narrow with passing places, and access is easier coming from Farnham / Tilford than it is from Frensham.
