SIHG Talk: "The Match Girls Strike and How It Changed British History" by Michael Astrop (Zoom)

Date:
Thursday, 5 February, 2026 - 19:15 to 20:45

In the summer of 1888, fourteen hundred young women and girls, walked out of an East End match factory and into the history books. Their actions continue to exert a powerful hold over the public imagination to this day, and this talk captures every element of their struggle.

Michael is an experienced speaker spanning the last thirty years with an academic and a communications background. After retirement from the international training arena, he pursued his hobby of researching historical topics that stimulated his interest. He now has twelve talks of which this is one of his favourites.
