ANCIENT ART IN A SURREY CHURCH. I was interested in reading the account of the work done by Dr. E.W. Tristram on the wall paintings in Witley Church.  Having revisited the church I am amazed to see how much he has accomplished. But your acount might well have contained some generous reference to the work done in 1917 by Mr. Philip M. Johnston. When I opened up the Saxon window and found painted figures appearing on the splay I called in Mr. Johnston to advise. He did considerable work on the whole series of ancient paintings.
