The Surrey Archaeological Society AGM will take place by Zoom at 2pm on Saturday November 14th. This will be followed by what will be a fascinating talk by Antonietta Lerz - Senior Archaeologist and Han Li - Senior Building Material Specialist at MOLA.
Archaeological excavations by MOLA in 2021-2022 at the Liberty of Southwark site revealed an exceptional sequence of Roman period remains spanning four centuries of occupation. This talk will focus on some of the most significant Roman discoveries, inclding the remains of high-status buildings decorated with painted wall plaster and some of the best-preserved Roman mosaics discovered in London in the last 50 years. Specialist conservation and reconstruction of thousands of fragments of painted wall plaster also led to the identification of two inscriptions unique to Roman Britain. Together with the architectural remains, these finds provide new insights into Roman Southward and its connections with the wider Roman world.
The Zoom link will be sent to members in November.
