A Dorking Local HIstory Group event.

Surrey Archaeological Society will hold a Heritage Open Day at their Research Centre in Abinger Hammer. The central Lithics Group will be in attendance studying and cataloguing lithics collections (mainly flint items) and there will be an opportunity to explore the Society Library. Other activities are under consideration.

The Research Centre will be open on 17th September as part of the Mole Valley Heritage Open Days scheme. If interested in visiting the Society's library and research space on this occasion then contact the Society for details and information.

A visit to Crofton Roman villa has been arranged and  Dr Brian Philp has kindly agreed to show us round. The site was fully excavated by the Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit, which now manages the scheme in conjunction with Bromley Council.

Following our visit last year we will be making a return at the end of this season's excavation, when the site director will give us a tour around the site. There will be an option to have tea at the cafe after the visit. 

Although there is no cost for the trip, a donation towards the project would be welcome. One will be expected to make one's own way to the site, and booking is essential. Please contact john.felton@ntlworld.com if you would like to attend.

A Heritage Open Day is being arranged for Thursday 15th September. It will coincide with an AARG working day and other groups have been invited to set up a display or to participate in some other way. The library will also be open to browse. Admission is free and open to members and non-members alike, but if a large group wish to attend together the office would appreciate some notice in advance since space is limited.
