Following on from previous succesful work, we plan further excavations in the ensuing season. In particular, the kiln part-excavated in 2010 will be excavated in full, further work will be undertaken on field boundary ditches and a cross-section will be undertaken to improve our understanding of building levels.
Work will take place 9.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday June 6 - 10 and June 13 - 17

Our final visit of the year is to Bignor Roman villa in Sussex where a lot has been happening over the last few years. We are fortunate to have David Rudling as our guide who has been closely involved with the site over a long period. A walk on Stane Street, which is not far away, is on the cards for the more energetic. An entry fee is payable.

Kingston upon Thames Archaeological Society has been awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to investigate a site on the Hogsmill River during the first week in August. The focus will be on palaeoecology through auguring and testpits, but other information may come to light too, like who grazed their animals in these lush water meadows, and whether there is any sign of the many mills that dotted the Hogsmill from medieval times onwards.

The Annual General Meeting will be followed by a talk by Hella Eckhardt on "The Roman Diaspora Project". The results of the project have recently been published as a JRA supplement, and should stimulate our thoughts on such subjects as the nature of the population of "Roman" Surrey: how many newcomers and of what kind might we expect to have been living here?
