THE DEVELOPMENT OF INDUSTRY IN SOUTHERN ROMAN BRITAIN
A Day Conference

For its third, major biennial conference in 2012 the Surrey Roman Studies Group has chosen the theme of “The Development of Industry in Southern Roman Britain.” The Conference will focus on six significant industries and discuss their development in the Southern part of the Roman Province.
The Conference will be chaired by Professor Mike Fulford and speakers will include:
Justine Bayley (Formerly English Heritage) Roman non-ferrous metal working in Southern Britain
Ian Betts (Museum of London) The Supply of Tile to Roman London
Jeremy Hodgkinson (Univ. Of Sussex) The Development of Iron Production in the Roman Weald
Jackie Keily (Museum of London) & Margaret Broomfield (Surrey Arch. Socy.) Roman Leather Working
Louise Rayner (Archaeology South-East) Clay, Water, Fuel: The Development of the Pottery Industries Supplying Roman London
John Shepherd (Independent Archaeologist) The Glassworkers of Roman London
The Conference will be held on Saturday May 12th 2012 in the Chertsey Hall, Chertsey, Surrey (Readily accessible from Junction 11 on the M25 or by train – full directions will be provided ), and run from 0930 until 1700
Tickets will cost £15 and will include morning coffee and afternoon tea. A hot lunch will be available at the Hall for approximately £8 for two courses.
