Agriculture and Food in Southern Roman Britain - a Conference

8 May 2010 - 09:30
8 May 2010 - 16:45
Our  first major Conference, Aqua Briannica, was held two years ago, breaking new ground as it was the first time that so many aspects of the Roman usage of water in Brtain had been covered in one Conference. This year our subject is equally ground-breaking. It has been warmly welcomed by many specialists in the field who feel that a conference on agriculture in Roman Britain is long-overdue. Already there is considerable interest in publication of the proceedings.

We have been fortunate to attract a very strong team of distinguished speakers, many of whom will already be known to members.

The aims of this year’s Conference are to bring together the results of recent research into the characteristics of agriculture and diet in the Southern part of the Province, and the rural landscape as it developed during the Roman occupation.

The Conference will be chaired by Dr David Bird and speakers will include:

Professor Mike Fulford (University of Reading)   Introduction – The Dynamics of Change

Paul Booth (Oxford Archaeology)                     Small Towns and Rural Settlements in Roman Kent

David Rudling (University of Sussex)                Rural Settlement in Roman Sussex
